What are issues?
Issues are topics that you can discuss or debate because they have at least two sides to consider and several different opinions people can argue.
Eg. People should have to obtain a licence to own a pet.
Write down another three examples of issues.

Where can people express their opinions on issues?
Write down five places where people can express their opinions.

Key Terms
Complete the handout Write a definition for the following terms: fact, opinion and argument.
Contention – the point of view of a writer or speaker.
Tone – The mood or feeling of a piece of writing.
Rhetorical Question – A question that does not require an answer.

Emotive Language – language that aims to stir up emotions (eg. to make people angry, sad, sympathetic).
